Rice flake is one of the many traditional products in India. Rice flakes are known by several names such as flaked Rice, Beaten rice, Aval, Avalakki, Poha and Chiwda. Poha is nothing but rice that has been parboiled, rolled, flattened and then dried to produce flakes. The flakes come in different thicknesses depending on the pressure used in the flattening process. Rice flakes are small, very light, about 2mm long, flat and greyish white in colour. They have uneven edges and a rough texture. Rice flakes have no particular aroma and a bland gentle taste. Depending on the method of cooking, they can be soft or crunchy. Poha or Rice rice flax is not just a dish for a breakfast in Malwa region of MP but now it’s become a culture and identity of the region and gradually being a part of menu of morning meal all over the India. The poha is an healthy n almost fat free meal when prepared with more nutritious ingredients.
Flattened rice (also called beaten rice) is a dehusked rice which is flattened into flat light dry flakes. These flakes of rice swell when added to liquid, whether hot or cold, as they absorb water, milk or any other liquids. The thicknesses of these flakes vary between almost translucently thin (the more expensive varieties) to nearly four times thicker than a normal rice grain.
Flattened rice can be eaten raw by immersing it in plain water or milk, with salt and sugar to taste, or lightly fried in oil with nuts, raisins, cardamoms, and other spices. The lightly fried variety is a standard breakfast in Malvaa region (surrounding,Ujjain, indore)of Madhya Pradesh. It can be reconstituted with hot water to make a porridge or paste, depending on the proportion of water added. In villages, particularly in Chhattisgarh, Poha or Chiura is also eaten raw by mixing with jaggery. All our products are cultivated by experienced farmers under extremely hygienic conditions with the use of natural manures. The array of poha is prepared from high quality rice combining traditional as well as contemporary methods. This crunchy and crispy product ensures high nutritional value, lmouth watering taste.
